FIND YOUR VOICE
Digital Instruments
Conservatory trained in the oboe, with experience playing all four major Bach choral works. Jessica found her true voice and passion through digital instruments.
Here, Jessica uses an APC40 MIDI controller to use pre-made loops from Ghosthacks to improvise an entirely new composition. Using faders, effects controls, and loops, Jessica finds freedom expression through digital technologies.
Following the model set by KRS-ONE and Dr. Michael Viega, Jessica believes in diving into one of the four arts of Hip Hop (DJing, Graffiti, Breakdancing, and Rapping) if you are not indiginous to Hip Hop culture and if you are going to ethically engage with Hip Hop in therapy.
Educationally, Fletcher believes in expanding her knowledge and making herself vulnerable in music herself, just as she asked her clients to do for years and now her students.
Above, Jessica joins Dr. Sean Parsons on a featured faculty recital focused on multiple forms of digital instruments. In the two compositions, “Move Your Body, Feel the Beat” and “Rise, Fly, Soar”, Fletcher uses a 5 station looper to layer vocals, percussion, and beatboxing to create a soundscape of soulful R&B and House beats. Dr. Parsons provides drumpad looping tracks, synth/keys solos, and pre-recorded loops, for a combined expressive experience demonstrating the collaborative possibilities and accessibility of sounds within digital instruments.
